Compression fitting

Compression fitting are easy to install, slip it on and tighten. In Compression fittings installation, on the other hand, keep a threaded end with an attached nut. If you remove the nut prior to installation, a ring inside it fits onto the end of the pipe, and when you tightened the nut onto the pipe, the ring works like a seal around the pipe. Compression fittings also suitable to use these purposes, but they are mostly used for connecting valves and flexible water supply lines at the end point of use. Compression fittings are a safe & easy choice for the plumbers who has limited confidence to make solder connections. These compression fittings don't require heat or welding work, they can be used in tight quarters. The engineers or workers can also remove compression fittings, which is an advantage when hooking up appliances or reuse a compression fitting.

Inspite of many features there are few disadvantages of Compression fittings. These fittings will leak if the pipe inserts are kinked or not completely straight. A compression fitting is going to give you a more robust and reliable seal comparison to a Solder.

There are two types of compression fitting, standard (British type-A/non-manipulative) and flare fittings (British type-B/manipulative).

Flare fittings

Flare fittings are a type of compression fitting as per British type-B mainly used with metal tubing such as ductile copper and aluminum, and other materials. Flare fittings are good choice when you are making connection for water pressure going through a pipe or high gas distribution. The flare threads have 16 threads per inch. Brass flare fittings are not suitable for natural gas connections as natural gas can contain some hydrogen sulfide. Flare fittings are always preferred to use with soft tubing over 3/8"od while compression fittings should be use with all hard copper and soft tubing 3/8"od and smaller sizes. Never use compression fittings on gas connections.

The most popular hydraulic configuration is SAE 37° flared (aka JIC) tube fitting. 37° flare fittings, which are also known as JIC fittings. These Flare fittings are used for joining tubing in hydraulic system. JIC 37° flare fittings are reusable, but they may not always be reliable. 37° flare fittings have a cone on the female adapter and a flare on the male adapter.

Difference Between AN 37° Flare vs Industrial 37° Flare Fittings

AN means Air Force - Navy Aeronautical Standard. AN 37° Flare fittings are manufactured as per the given standards. These 37° flare, flareless, hose connections, "banjo" type fittings, specialized flange fittings, pipe fittings comes under Flare Fittings. AN 37° Flare Fittings have precision 3A/3B threads as per ISO 8434 standard.
