One instance, where the Hastelloy Alloy C276 Cold Drawn Round Bar particularly finds use is in the recovery of naturally occurring sour gas. Generally, sour gas environments consist of many toxic compounds such as carbon dioxide and chlorides apart from hydrogen sulphide. Conventionally used carbon steel grades, if used in this application, may crack. Thus leading to an unsafe and flammable environment. However, if AMS 5750 hot rolled round bar were to be used, the equipment used in this application was to function better.
To elaborate, the Hastelloy C276 Flat Bar is resilient to sulphur stress cracking which means that the equipment would work without the ASME SB574 Hastelloy C276 Square Bar getting cracked and there would be no leaks of this flammable gas. Thus the WERKSTOFF NR. 2.4819 hex bar, is considered to be one of the better alloy groups that are able to handle stress caused due to these gases. An additional characteristic that makes the ASTM B574 UNS N10276 Bright Bar is its heat resistance behaviour. Typically sour gas environments have elevated temperature settings, which is one more reason to cause the equipment to crack. But since the Hastelloy C276 Round Bar is resilient to heat, many of our buyers involved in sour gas applications prefer using the Nickel Alloy C276 Rod over other alloys.

The material is a nickel chromium alloy with cobalt, vanadium and tungsten in its composition. Due to the added elements, the alloy is very much corrosion resistant, strong, oxidation resistant and is intended for high temperature services. Therefore it is used in pollution control liners, ducts, scrubbers, fans and housings, sour gas wells, waste treatment plants, pulp and paper industries, flue gas desulfurization systems, pharmaceutical industry, food processing industry, chemical processing components, heat exchangers, evaporators and other high corrosion applications. The material is also resistant to most organic acids. So it could be used in any kind of corrosive environment.
