Typically the Inconel 600 Tube is used for applications that involve heat exchangers and condensers. What makes the ASME SB163 600 Inconel hot finish tubing special is that the alloy is able to withstand high temperatures up to 2000°F. Usually, much conventional stainless steel grades or carbon steel grades fail at temperatures this high.

While UNS N06600 Tubing does not lose its much sought after characteristics. Properties such as high tensile strength and corrosion resistance of the Nickel Alloy 600 Annealed Tube are not affected even at 2000°F. Which is why it makes perfect sense to use the ASTM B163 Alloy 600 Seamless Tubing for elevated temperature settings. Also covered in the ASTM B163 specification are certain dimensions that can be used to produce Din 2.4816 Cold Drawn Tube.
A manufacturer could use either the outside diameter and average wall, or he could use the dimensions outside diameter and minimum wall tube to produce the Inconel 600 Welded Tubing. In terms of the specifics, the Inconel 600 Seamless Tube produced must conform to the chemical and mechanical properties laid down by the specification. Moreover, the specification also covers test methods that could be performed on the Alloy 600 Tubing to check the conformance of the product to the standard. Usually, the standardized tests for the ASTM B163 specification include the following tension, rounding procedure, Rockwell hardness, chemical analysis as well as grain size and hardness conversion.

Inconel 600 is a nickel chromium alloy with other elements such as copper manganese, silicon, sulfur and carbon in its composition. The material is strong with 655MPa minimum tensile strength and 310MPa minimum yield strength. It also has a melting point of 1354 to 1413 degrees Celsius. This means that the tubing made up of this material can withstand high pressure and high temperature. The heat exchangers and gas turbines operate under high temperature and high pressure conditions. Also Inconel 600 is much oxidation resistant at elevated temperatures. This is why Inconel 600 Tubing is used in heat exchangers and gas turbines.
