The Chemical Composition of Inconel 601 is as follows: Nickel, Ni 58-63. Chromium, Cr 21-25. Iron, Fe 13. Aluminum, Al 1-1.70. Copper, Cu ≤ 1. Manganese, Mn ≤ 1. Silicon, Si ≤ 0.50. Carbon, C ≤ 0.10 and Sulfur, S ≤ 0.015. Inconel 601 has a Tensile Strength (solution annealed/value at room temperature) of 110000 psi (760 MPa). It has a Yield Strength (@ strain 0.200%, solution annealed/value at room temperature) of 65300 psi (450 MPa).
Inconel 601 is used in many industries today and some of these are flame shields, heat treat furnace fixtures and muffles. It is also used in vehicular applications, as well as industrial applications. Sheets made of Inconel 601 are also used in aircraft gas turbine containment rings. Inconel Alloy 601 has an Elongation at break of 42% Imperial and 42% Metric. Only by cold working, is it possible to harden Inconel 601 material. By standard tooling, it becomes possible to cold form Inconel 601. To hot work Inconel 601, the temperature range has to be between 1600 to 2250 °F (872 to 1233 °C). It is possible to weld Inconel 601 by using shielded metal-arc welding, gas-tungsten arc welding, submerged-arc welding and gas metal-arc welding. Annealing of Inconel 601 is done at 2100 °F (1149 °C). To prevent thermal cracking, Inconel 601 has to be cooled at temperatures that are between 1000 to 1400 °F (538 to 760 °C). Alloy 601 material is used in various kinds of chemical process equipments such as condenser tubes, grid barriers, combustor components, ash handling systems and process heaters.

Fabrication with Inconel 601
Alloy 601 can be both hot formed and cold formed using typical processes. Hot working should be performed between 1601° F and 2250° F avoiding any work between1200-1601° F because the ductility decreases in this temperature range. Welding Alloy 601 can be achieved via shielded metal-arc welding, TIG, and MIG.
