  • Inconel Heat Treatment

Heat Treatment Inconel Alloy 600 Inconel Alloy 600 is not an age hardening alloy; cold working is the only available means of hardening. Softening by annealing begins at about 1600°F (871°C), and is reasonably complete after 10 to 15 minutes of heating at 1800°F (982°C). Above this temperature, grain growth may be objectionable, although very brief heating at 1900°F will cause complete softening without undue grain growth. Since the rate of cooling has no effect on the softening, the material may be water quenched or air cooled.
Heat Treatment Inconel Alloy 625 Inconel Alloy 625 has three basic heat treatments:
    (1) High Solution Anneal – 2000/2200°F (1093/1204°C), air quench or faster.
    (2) Low Solution Anneal – 1700/1900°F (927/1038°C), air quench or faster.
    (3) Stress Relieve – 1650°F (899°C), air quench.
Inconel Heat Shield Inconel (2200 deg F continuous).

    Inconel Welding

Useful Tips for Welding Inconel Alloy

Inconel alloy is a nickel-chromium alloys which is used in different welding processes. Inconel alloy is most commonly used in techniques where high heat tolerance is required. Welding Inconel can be rather difficult because the welds that are created have a tendency to crack. There are a few alloys of Inconel that were specifically designed for use in welding like TIG.

    Inconel Galvanic Corrosion

A galvanic series in sea water is presented in Figure 7 showing inconel alloy 625 to be very noble com-pared to many of the other alloys. Thus, inconel alloy 625 will usually behave as a cathode when in contactwith other materials in sea water.
