In this case, this nickel centric WERKSTOFF NR. 2.4360 hex bar has been alloyed with copper. Copper as a singular element is resistant to sulphuric acid and has bacteriostatic and anti-microbial properties. This combination of nickel and copper in the ASTM B164 UNS N04400 Bright Bar aids the alloy with its resistance properties. Therefore deterioration of the alloy in seawater and steam at high temperatures is almost negligent if the Monel 400 Forged Bar has been exposed to various corrosive sources such as rapidly flowing brackish water or seawater as well as steam at elevated temperature.
The MONEL® ALLOY 400 hot rolled round bar also demonstrates excellent resistance to deterioration to stress related corrosion cracking in many freshwater sources. The AMS 4675 Cold Drawn Round Bar can be used in marine applications because the alloy has superior resistance against chloride induced stress related corrosion cracking. The corrosion resistance properties, as well as the mechanical properties of the 400 Monel Hollow Bar, remain almost similar to as seen in ambient temperature settings. Likewise, the mechanical properties of the Nickel Alloy 400 Rod arent affected in cryogenic settings as well. However, most manufacturers advise caution against using the Monel 400 Round Bar in nitric acid and ammonia systems, as the alloy tends to rapidly get deteriorated on exposure to these chemicals.

The Monel alloy 400 round bars and hex bars range from 5mm to 500mm in diameter. Their lengths can differ from supplier to supplier and application to application but the common range is from 100mm to 3000mm or 6000mm. The round bars are used along with high tolerance tubing and in oil and gas industries. The hex bars are used in much stronger applications with high oxidation and pressure prone conditions. The hex bar applications are usually in structural applications to provide extra strength to the structure.
